Send her away!

I was getting better at updating my blog then something happened; not sure what. It’s been a month since my last update. No, I did not just sat on my butt. Over the past month, we went through my daughter’s surgery, finalizing the 10X10 video, did a model shoot on the street of Montreal with fellow LCCers, did a Studio shoot with a couple of friends and helped Victoria put together a video for Jasmine Star’s Seattle workshop, organized by the good folks at Creativelive. The video was filmed in my backyard on probably what was the hottest days of the week. The nice thing was I got to shoot the video with a Nikon D3s with a 24-70 2.8 lens mounted to it. The bad thing is I now wish my 50D was shooting video too… Those who think DSLr video is just a gimmick well…

I love working with video files. Learned Adobe Premiere about 3 or 4 years ago by playing when I put my hands on version 1.5. I then got to play with version CS3, 4 and 5. I never took any courses. I got to know the basics I needed by trial and errors and believe me, I was not lacking in the error department. Imagine putting together a whole video only to discover your project started off with the wrong resolution settings.

The whole thing took about an hour and a half to record. We did 6 different setups, 3 in the shade, 3 in the sun, plus the fox take, the cats take and the gears take. A couple of hours of editing later, the thing was on the web. So far the reviews are very good and Victoria received some awesome feedback from key people such as Creativelive, Rachel Thurston (who participated live to the Zack Arias workshop last month via the same selection method) and… Jasmine Star herself. Enough to make anyone smile!

I wish all the luck in the world to Victoria for her video entry to Jasmine’s workshop. She had the balls to change career and throw herself into photography while others like me still like the secure feeling of getting 2 pay cheques a month. She deserves it. She also need a 1 week break from the litter boxes…

  1. Steph, you are such an awesome friend to have spent the day (and night, and next day) shooting and editing this video! It was HOT the day we shot this and in retrospect, I should have come up with an idea that involved me sitting in your pool, drinking cocktails with Anne-Marie instead!! Ah well, there's always next time :)I have NEVER won anything in my life… actualy, not, that's not true, I did win a plastic salad bowl in the shape of a leaf at a church social when I was about 15… but surely that doesn't count in the karmic realm of winning stuff?? It would be SO amazing if I get chosen to attend Jasmine's workshop. I'm actually online now, filling out the application to renew my passport… just in case. Thanks again for all your help. Keep your fingers crossed :)
